A favorite neighborhood because of its strong schools, close proximity to the Palo Alto Community Center facilities, and accessibility to the highway for an easy commute, Green Gables is bounded by Middlefield Road, Oregon Expressway, Highway 101, and San Francisquito Creek. This area was originally a farm with a spectacular view of the Bay and annexed into Palo Alto just before World War II, though it didn't see much growth until the end of the war. It was in this post-war era that early developer Eichler built the three tracts known as Channing Park, Green Gables Addition (a National Historic Register Place), and Edgewood, along with Edgewood Shopping Center.
